Plans for Brightway

The firm of JM Milligan Architects completed a study of the site to ensure the needed facilities can be developed and site plans have been completed.

The first project the board authorized is renovation of the historic Bright family home, which sits at what will be the entrance to Brightway Center. The home will serve as a Welcome Center to the camp and will also house administrative offices and conference rooms that will be available for public use. Most importantly, the renovated home will serve as a tribute to Kara Bright and the lifelong dream he pursued. Brightway recently received a grant from the Governor’s Office of Appalachia to aid in the renovation costs. This demonstrates the importance of a facility like Brightway in a small rural community.

The board has also engaged the firm Cramer and Associates, who are providing pre-campaign counsel. They have worked diligently with JM Milligan Architects to develop a site plan which includes a total of 6 phases. In order to succeed in realizing a vision of becoming a premier sports ministry program that influences the world for Christ, a complex and multifaceted facility must be built. By developing the site in phases, the Board will be able to set and achieve manageable goals.

Brightway facilities will be constructed on 174 acres of land which will accommodate all of the center’s events, programs, administrative functions, and operations. The overall concept will include facilities which will be accessible to both the community and corporate activities such as conference rooms, education/training rooms, executive overnight housing, and a sports complex with athletic fields. Brightway Center will ultimately include the following: an amphitheatre, adequate parking for participants, a gymnasium, multi-court layout for athletics and recreational programs, covered basketball courts, a swimming pool, VIP cottages, student and counselor cottages, and chapel.

The “Homestead,” the heart of Brightway Center, will be the first project to be completed. This includes the Bright home or Welcome Center as well as a pavilion which will be used as an auditorium/conference/ classroom center, housing up to 350 guests.

Existing funds will be used for the renovation of the farmhouse and building costs for the pavilion. Funds for other facilities will be procured through a capital campaign for Brightway Center.
