The Homestead: Welcome Center
Brightway Center will be built on 174 acres of land and will accommodate all of the center's events, programs, operations and administrative functions. The overall concept will include facilities accessible to both the community and corporate activities such as conference rooms, education/ training rooms, executive overnight housing, and a sports complex with athletic fields. But much needs to be done before we will see a final product! In order to begin programming as soon as possible, our immediate focus is on completing what will be known as "The Homestead," a collection of buildings located at the entrance to Brightway Center.
This Homestead will include the Bright family home where Kara grew up and spent most of his adult life, until his death in 2007. Rather than tearing down the run-down house, the board’s first priority was to restore it as a tribute to Kara. The upstairs will serve as Brightway's administrative offices while the rest of the home will be used for special events, educational programming, open houses and more. Restoring the home has proven to be quite a challenge! But thanks to Don Grim of Allied Construction, the home will be ready for use by fall 2010.
The Homestead: Pavilion and Equipment Barn
The Homestead will also include a large pavilion which will be used as an auditorium/ conference/ classroom center, housing up to 350 guests. Once complete, it will be used for programming and will also be available for rent by the public. Additionally, it will be designed to complement the architecture and design of the Bright family home. Lastly, The Homestead will include the already-standing equipment barn, which will be used for storage. With just a few updates and renovations, the equipment barn will also harmonize with the design of the other structures. Together, the Welcome Center, The Pavilion and the Equipment Barn--The Homestead--will be the heart of Brightway Center.
